Jesse Mann
DJ, Wordsmith, Music nerd
Music has been a part of Jesse’s life since he started playing piano at the age of eight. On his thirteenth birthday he got up from the piano bench and picked up a guitar. At the age of seventeen, Jesse traded in his guitar for a pair of turntables and hasn’t looked back since.
Jesse’s musical style encompasses all that is soulful and funky, incorporating familiar sounds with obscure forgotten classics and upfront remixes. In a single DJ set he can travel effortlessly between vintage funk and disco to Afro-Latin grooves, house, techno, hip-hop, and everything in between. Jesse's collection covers the full spectrum of music.
His DJing career has taken him far and wide in the nine years since he started, from Paris, Berlin, Vienna and England, to San Francisco, Miami, and Puerto Rico. He has played at many of NYC's biggest and most revered clubs, its most chic and exclusive lounges, and its most intense underground parties. Jesse has also been hired as a restaurant music curator, and DJ for corporate events both large and intimate.
Jesse has held a residency at Bembe in Williamsburg since November of 2005, for the acclaimed party Body Music (formerly No Selector Sundays) on Sunday nights. There he acts as musical curator, promoter, and DJ, booking and playing alongside live bands on a weekly basis. The party is regularly featured in publications like Time Out NY, and is a staple of the Brooklyn music scene on Sundays. He also currently holds monthly residencies downstairs at APT in Manhattan and at Public Assembly, formerly Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg.
Jesse's deep musical knowledge has also served him in freelance writing gigs for BPM Magazine, Prefix, and Coolhunting, amongst others. Jesse’s musical taste and professionalism reveals a passion and depth that far exceeds his 27 years.
